Community Fund – Just cycle – February Update

We received an email on Friday  from Cycling Scotland-through Big Bike Revival. They have been talking with A Greener Melrose about setting up a community cycling club-seemingly A Greener Melrose was to have been in touch with us about a tie in with that.

 The University has asked us about  a supply of bikes for students to get to and from Gala Interchange. We will be having a chat  next week about what may be possible-

Supplied approx 15 bikes /trikes to nursery/ primary school in Jedburgh in Feb so that nursery and P1 children may cycle in playground.

 Possible bike hire in Coldingham/St Abbs.  The local community wishes to make bikes available to promote tourism and have been in touch with one of my colleagues in Berwickshire.

 Sales-very good bike sales in February although we still have the trike and ideally would like to sell on to someone who has a disability and  who really needs it.

Funding –we continue to explore avenues for long term funding that will enable us to employ staff and expand the business.

Community Fund – Just cycle – January Update

Closed two weeks over Festive period but volunteers were back working on 3rd January. We have many more bikes now at the unit and have just last month agreed with the local authority that bikes from all recycling centres will now come to Just Cycle –with grateful thanks to the Criminal Justice team  at SBC who assist with transport and storage.

Sales-more sales to students last month including those studying in Edinburgh-word has spread of our brilliant service and competitive prices!

We have a request from a local primary school to supply bikes for nursery and p1 children (ages 3-6 years) as staff wish to get their children engaged early in outdoor physical activities. We will be providing around 10-12 bikes over the next couple of weeks –and more when we have them.

Galashiels  Rotary Club. We were asked  some months ago to go along to give a presentation on the charity so will be doing that this week  in order to promote what we have been doing and outline our future plans.

Funding-In January we managed to secure some funding for technical training for volunteers and we await the outcome of larger applications for staffing.

Community Fund – Just cycle – November Update

Wedsc_0001 have been applying for grants and funds and will hear the results of those in the New Year – this is so we can ask for a co-ordinator and a trained bike mechanic to help us expand and become self sustaining.

We have loads of bikes upcycled, ready for sale and in the New Year we are going to do a push to ask for any bikes that are now surplus or in people’s sheds that they no longer require – alongside a push to encourage people to cycle for their New Year’s resolution.

Community Fund – Just cycle – October Update

Please excuse the lateness of this update but we had a meeting tonight and I wanted to get the latest information for you;

We have been working in partnership with criminal justice, community payback department, and are increasing our partnership working with them.  In October we sold a number of bikes and standardised our opening hours.  We now have bikes being sold out at St Abbs and our volunteers are being upskilled in bike maintenance skills.
