Also daytime groups with Parents and children at ‘Cooking up a Story’.    Baby’s First Food Weaning Sessions is ongoing and has had a visit from one of their funders ‘The Womens Fund in Scotland’.

The popular Chair Exercise had a great turn out for its end of term celebration.

The activities throughout the holidays are for local children/ adults and family groups with Games and Sports, Outings to Places of Interest, Band Camp, Youth Hub, Splash Day, Theatre School, Outdoor family exercise and Buggy Gym for Mums and Babies, , Bookbus and Cooking with Kids, Junior Disco, Concerts and we round off the summer hols with the ‘Broomhouse Street Party’ with more activities, entertainments and stalls on 11th August 11am-3pm and everyone is welcome.

We closed the shop for the first two of weeks in July  so the Volunteers and Staff could have a well  deserved holiday and we’ve had a ‘Volunteers Summer Day Out’ at the end of July to Portobello to say thankyou for all their support through the year.  We are planning now for our new terms in the Autumn with a new exercise class being developed for our Adult Women.

Community Fund – Broomhouse – February Update

On the 2nd of February we had a community event  called the ‘Volunteer Blether’. It  was arranged for  people interested in volunteering to come along and meet with organisations  that could offer a range of volunteering opportunities.. Our visitors found the event very worthwhile with 30 people connecting with a new volunteering opportunity. It was a very nice social occasion with a light lunch.

During the February school holidays  BHSG ran two ‘Cooking With Kids sessions’, one at  Murrayburn and  one session in Broomhouse. Lots of families had fun making fun pizza faces and decorating some homemade shortbread.

Community Fund – Broomhouse – December Update

BHSG Shop and volunteers

In December our volunteers and BHSG staff had a fantastic festive outing to Dumfries to visit the ‘The Usual Place’, which is a local community project. Their local team that created the café and training kitchen in Dumfries a few years ago had previously come to find out how we run our BHSG services to get some ideas from us in Broomhouse. So we really enjoyed getting in the minibus and travelling over to the South West of Scotland to see and experience their wonderful community cafe. We had a delicious lunch, a tour and a wander down to the very pretty town, with a walk by the river. Highly recommend a visit there.

Tasty Bites Thursdays – we had our ongoing generous donations from ‘Tesco Fareshare’ and shared many tasty recipe bags with our service users in the shop.

2017  –We are currently promoting and planning our new term of exercise and cooking activities starting in January, we are delighted to say that Nation Lottery have awarded us four years of funding to help us offer our activities in the local community.  We had a nice break over Christmas and New Year to give our volunteers a well-deserved holiday.

Community Fund – Broomhouse – November Update

BHSG Shop and volunteers

We have two new volunteers training with us at the moment and recent volunteers in the shop are busy undertaking further training with us. One of our volunteers has recently taken up an employment opportunity.

We are planning a Christmas outing to Dumfries  to a café called ‘The Usual Place’ who visited up some time ago to see how we ran our community project.

Tasty Bites Thursdays – we have shared many recipe bags with COSS (  Advice &Foodbank) next door and also our service users.

Our physical activities and cooking groups have been busy this term too, we had up to 8 participants in our relatively new ‘Tone & Flex. Lots of young people and their families have enjoyed Cooking up a Story, all our regular groups( walking and chair exercise) have new members and many longer term users too. We are promoting out newest class ‘Duo’ to the neighbourhood, parents/friends and children come along to exercise together in pairs or with is if they come along themselves, while the children play nearby. It takes place in the gym at Wester Hailes( E4L) on a Monday, great fun and is a short high intensity session. Free of charge .

Community Fund – Broomhouse – October Update

Autumn Activities

October has seen the new BHSG venture ‘Duo’ get underway. We are trialling a new venue in Wester Hailes for the introduction of ‘Duo’ and at a new time of 4pm-4.30pm. It is a half hour of high intensity workout, and already proving very popular.  Parents can bring their children to the group; the babies can stretch out on the mats and the older children play in the hall while the adults exercise in pairs, helping to motivate each other with Alicia’s guidance and some great tunes. Plenty room for all.

31st October/Nov 1st  has seen the start of our new autumn term for Adult Cooking, Women’s Aerobics, Tone & Flex, Buggygym and Baby’s First Foods( Weaning Group) and Cooking up a Story with our Chair Exercise and Walking Group
