Community Fund – Garden Gate Project – January Update

During this cold weather, we at the garden have immersed ourselves in arts and crafts during the month of January…

We have been hosting lots of creative collaborations… Tuesday mornings, Whitstable based artist, Ben Dickenson is running a printing workshop at the garden, starting with the basics of mono printing then progressing on to lino printing.

On Wednesday’s we are partnering with The Turner Contemporary in Margate and The Tate.  Using TS Eliot’s Wasteland poem as a starting point, artist Sara Wicks and participants have identified their own Wasteland within the garden and are making work in response to the space.  Funded by the Arts Council, this work will culminate into an exhibition in June and feed into the Turner Contemporary’s ‘Journey to the Wastelands’ exhibition in 2018.

Thursday is pottery day with Bridget McVey…  Currently we are decamping from the garden and heading down to Bridget’s studio in Cliftonville however, we have recently acquired a potter’s wheel at the garden so we are looking forward to having some fun with that when the weather warms up.

Although we have been busying ourselves imaginatively, we haven’t forgot to look after the garden and have been catching up with some maintenance during the Winter months.  The daffodils and snowdrops are early this year… A sure sign that Spring is on its way…
